A group of major donors to the Republican National Committee (RNC) wrote a letter calling on RNC members to support Harmeet Dhillon in her bid to unseat incumbent Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, citing the Republican Party's recent election losses and Dhillon's efforts in service of the conservative movement.

"We cannot continue on our current trajectory as a Republican Party," the letter said. "We must change, in order to fulfill our promise to Republican voters to win elections. After three consecutive losing election cycles and decades of a handful of consultants plundering Party resources, many members of the RNC seem content to double down on the incumbent leadership that is presently failing us."

The Republican Party "currently faces the most organized, radical and weaponized Democrat Party the nation has ever seen," the letter continues. "Despite this clear and present threat to our freedom, the highest levels of the Republican National Committee appear to be more focused on blaming others for their lack of leadership and lining the pockets of cherry-picked consultants than on winning elections."

The donors called on RNC members to "thank Ronna McDaniel for her service and to support the only RNC member seeking to succeed her, Harmeet Dhillon—a bold visionary with the energy and experience to retool the party for success in 2024 and beyond."

The donors called Dhillon "the right choice to lead our Party into the future as the next RNC chair."

In a tweet, Dhillon said she was "honored to have the support of some of the party’s largest donors and bundlers in the RNC chair race."

The donors, which include Joy Ashlock of Florida, Jackie and Doug Deason of Texas and Dr. Bob Shillman of California, addressed their Jan. 9 letter to members of the Republican National Committee and wrote that "millions of Party activists" who have supported Republicans with their time and money feel "abandoned by the RNC."

The donors highlighted a growing perception that "the RNC needs fresh leadership in order to make the necessary changes to win elections," and encouraged RNC members to support Dhillon. The letter praised Dhillon's record as a constitutional attorney, a county party committee chairman, a successful business owner, a nonprofit founder and CEO and her current leadership position with the Republican National Lawyers Association.

Dhillon's priorities include decentralizing the RNC and moving important operations away from D.C. lobbyists and consultants, according to her website. She also called for refreshing methods of fundraising and delivering for donors, and for using technology more effectively.

McDaniel, if elected to a fourth term, would be one of the longest-serving RNC chairs in over 100 years, Fox News reported. In response to calls for change, McDaniel said in December, "I think I have provided a lot of change under my leadership. I'm always open to new ideas and ways to move forward." The election will take place via secret ballot at the end of January.

A poll conducted by Trafalgar Group among Republican voters for the Convention of States Action in December found that 73% of respondents called for new RNC leadership, The Hill reported. Six percent of respondents said they supported McDaniel for reelection, while 21% said they weren't sure.
